Education
The Department is headed by a District Education Officer (DEO) and its functions are:
 Implement school programme policies
 Ensure that capitation grants are put to proper use following the guidelines
 Provide technical advice on education to political leadership particularly through District Council
 Ensure that staff ceilings are maintained
 Take remedial and disciplinary action on non-performing head teachers and teachers
 Ensure quality performance of Head teachers and Teachers and school management committees
 Mobilise parents to send their children to school
 Ensure proper distribution of buildings and scholastic materials to schools
 Ensure that minimum standards are maintained in schools
 Ensure that all private schools are licensed and registered by the commissioner for pre-primary and primary education
 Carry out periodic inspection of schools
 Organise briefings or workshops and seminars for teachers to enhance quality and competence of teaching
